Security Tips for Mobile Banking
With online and mobile banking on the rise, it's only natural that security is top of mind for both banking institutions and customers. Byblos Bank Iraq’s Mobile Banking offers the encryption and security suite essential for safe digital banking.
Here are some precautions to keep in mind when banking on your mobile device:
Lock your phone Ensure your phone locks automatically after a short period of inactivity. Set a strong alphanumeric password to unlock the device. This helps prevent unauthorized access to your data if the device is lost or unattended.
Set a strong account password Avoid using your name, birth date, or other easily guessed personal information in your password. Change your password regularly to reduce the risk of hacking.
Do not store sensitive data on your phone Avoid saving passwords or account numbers on your device. If your phone is compromised, this information could be used against you. Regularly clear your browser history, messages, and stored files.
Keep your device updated Mobile devices need regular updates, just like computers, to patch vulnerabilities and improve security.
Install anti-malware protection Use security software that scans for malware, checks apps before downloading, and removes harmful content from your phone.
Avoid public Wi-Fi Public Wi-Fi networks are often unsecure and leave your device exposed. Use encrypted networks or your mobile data connection (3G/4G), and disable Wi-Fi when not in use to avoid accidental connections.
Manage Bluetooth settings In public places, others can detect and connect to your device via Bluetooth. Turn off Bluetooth or switch to non-discoverable mode to prevent unauthorized access.
Secure your SIM card Always set a PIN code for your SIM card. This adds an extra layer of security if your phone is lost or stolen.
Pay attention to pop-up alerts Pop-ups can warn you of potential threats or insecure environments. Don’t ignore them, they may be protecting you.
Be cautious when downloading apps Download apps only from reputable sources such as official app stores. Avoid unknown sources and disable installation from third-party providers in your settings.
Read the privacy policy Before installing any app, take a moment to read its privacy policy to understand how your data will be used and whether it might be shared with others.
Use social networking apps carefully These apps may unintentionally reveal personal information like your location or contacts. Be cautious with what you share and which permissions you grant.
Do not “root” or “jailbreak” your phone By bypassing built-in security restrictions, you may void your warranty and make your phone more vulnerable to fraud and attacks.
Wipe your device before selling it Before giving away or selling your phone, erase all personal data — including texts, emails, photos, and contacts — to prevent identity theft.
Never open unknown attachments or links Fraudsters use infected files to spread malware. Only open attachments or download apps from trusted, verified sources.
Report a lost or stolen phone immediately Contact Byblos Bank Iraq Customer Service or your branch as soon as possible to disable your Mobile Banking account and protect your identity.
Know how to remotely wipe your device If your phone is lost or stolen, be ready to remotely erase all data and restore factory settings. Most modern smartphones include this feature or offer apps for it.
Always log out After using the app, always log out manually — especially when using shared or public devices. Byblos Bank Iraq’s Mobile Banking app logs you out automatically after 5 minutes of inactivity, but it's best not to rely on that alone.
